The players of Korea Republic and the USA team take the field to train one more time before the game starts. They not only got a feel for the field, but they also got their adrenaline going ready for the first minute of the game.

The Women’s World Cup was the event of the summer, where millions of cheering, devoted fans came together from all over the world to support their countries as well as their heroes.   With this cup, names including Rapinoe, Morgan, Lloyd and Heath became well-known everywhere for their incredible legacies left on the field. Now, since the Cup is over, the women head back to the states for their Victory Tour with Allstate.

On Oct. 6, 2019, the team headed to Chicago to play Korea Republic for their last game of their tour. This game not only signified the end of the tour, but also marked the last game for Jill Ellis, their head coach. Ellis, known to the world as the manager of the number 1 ranked team, was brought to tears as she talked to her team for one last match. As I watched from the stands, I could see the strong connection between her and her team and how much of an impact she had left on them.

It felt unreal watching the team compete only a few yards away from me. They moved as a unit, with strong communication and skill which quickly shut down the Korean Republic. Then Carli Lloyd brought cheering to the stadium when she scored off a corner kick by Megan Rapinoe.

As the game went on, the determination grew stronger to break the 1-1 tie that the Korean Republic created. For the last remaining minutes, the USA team fought harder than I’ve ever seen with such great motivation and skill.

Even though the end result was a tie of 1-1, the USA team walked off the field with their heads high and with their head coach for one last time. I believe that Ellis not only led them to victory throughout the seasons, but she also created a family.
