National Honors Society held its first meeting for new members on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the LGI room. NHS focuses on volunteering in the community as well as displaying characteristics of leadership, character, service and scholarship.

“My title is National Honor Society Vice President. My job within NHS is to organize Lake Central’s blood drives in October and April. I also assist Maisie Westerfield (President), Miranda Prowse (secretary) and Miss York (sponsor) with National Honor Society tutoring and hour sheets,” Maggie DePirro (12) said.

The new members are being inducted in a ceremony held in the auditorium on Thursday Nov. 21.

“Our NHS secretary, Miranda Prowse (12), and I will be delivering the NHS speeches on the four tenets of the National Honor Society: leadership, character, service and scholarship. We will also hand out certificates and make sure that our new inductees sign the book,” DePirro said.

All members of the club are required to volunteer in the community 20 hours in each semester.

“Through volunteering I have learned how much it means to other people and it’s something that I truly enjoy doing,” DePirro said.

Anyone is welcome to attend the NHS ceremony on Thursday Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
