Bringing families together
November 21, 2019
Friday, Nov. 15, was a night for fun and games at Grimmer Middle School. The Grimmer PTO held its first ever Family Fun Night that featured bingo games and an open gym. Kim Wright, the PTO’s co-vice president, gave an insight of what the fun night hoped to accomplish.
“Grimmer’s Family Fun Night is basically a time for students and families in the community to come together and get to know each other,” Wright said.
The event brought together students and their families. Different local businesses like Culver’s and Izzy’s Cream Soda were there to sell a variety of foods and desserts to the attendees.
“The PTO has been planning this for a while now, and we’ve really put in the effort to make this night enjoyable. We wanted to incorporate different businesses in the community,” Corie Kazakevicius, Grimmer PTO’s president, said.
Grimmer’s PTO holds different events at the school, like a walkathon and an ice cream social. However, the Fun Night was a first for the parent-run organization.
“We had a great turnout tonight so hopefully we’ll be able to host another night like this with more games too,” Kazakevicius said.
Members of Dollars For Scholars were present to volunteer for the night. The members helped by watching over the kids at the open gym and helping clean afterwards. Caitlin O’Brien (12) states how she enjoyed helping during the event.
“I like volunteering at events where I can work with children. I spent most of the night supervising and playing with kids in the gym and I enjoy being able to help others and give back,” O’Brien said.
