Charmagne Abangan, Online Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Larry Veracco has made the decision of closing all Lake Central schools after consulting with the Lake County Board of Health and other Lake County school districts for the next four weeks starting Monday, March 16. Several districts in northwest Indiana, including the Hammond Area Career Center have also decided to close and the tentative return date is Monday, April 13.

Teachers will come in Monday next week to prepare lesson plans for distance learning. Students should be prepared to start distance learning on Wednesday, March 18.

School provided devices will be distributed for those students needing them through the high school, but this will not take place until next week. More information on times, locations and points of contact for these devices will be sent through schoolmessenger.

Students are encouraged to take home all of their materials, books, etc. before leaving school today. There will be no extracurricular events, detention or practices during this time.

Prom, AP testing, SAT, senior banquet and commencement will be addressed as this situation develops. Senior Honors Night, Junior Interview Day and College Planning Event will be postponed until further notice as well.

Additional information will be sent out to parents and students either through Canvas, student email or through schoolmessenger. Parents, please make sure you check Skyward to ensure your points of contact are updated and accurate. Please understand that the purpose of this four week long cancellation is to minimize large number of people in close confines that could accelerate the spread of the Coronavirus.
