Q: What are your feelings on the cancellation of the 2020 girls track season?
A: “I’m very sad that the 2020 track season had to be canceled. I was really looking forward to this season and to have it taken away so suddenly is devastating.”
Q: Do you think it was necessary to cancel the season?
A: “At first, I had hoped that the season would just be pushed back and not fully cancelled. I wouldn’t say I agree with the season being cancelled, but the school did what was necessary and what they were told to do by the state. I know they didn’t have a choice in the matter.”
Q: Has the cancellation affected your training for the 2021 season?
A: “Since I do both cross country and track, the cancellation of the season just means I have a head start at training for cross country season in the fall.”
Q: How is the team staying connected while at home?
A: “Our coach messages us often with workouts to do and positive notes and reminders, which is nice. My teammates have group chats where we text each other almost every day.”
Q: What are you looking forward to in terms of sports?
A: “Right now I’m looking forward to the cross country season and training as hard as I can to make Varsity again this year.”
Q: What are some goals you have set for the next season?
A: “For next track season, I hope to go to state again and I hope to be Varsity again. As a team i would like to see us win all of our meets next season and postseason.”
Q: Do you still follow a training regimen?
A: “My coach sends us a schedule of workouts to do that I have been following everyday. I’ve been lifting weights and working out at home also.”
Q: How are you adjusting to E-Learning and following a training schedule for track?
A: “Usually, everyday I wake up and workout and then do e-learning afterwards. Adjusting to e-learning hasn’t been as hard as I thought it was going to be.”
Q: Do you think other girls on the team are practicing for the next season?
A: “I know most of the girls on the team are equally, if not more upset by the cancellation of this track season. I know a lot of my teammates are also training for the cross country season coming up.”
Q: What is one thing you will miss the most about track?
A: “I’m really sad to have missed out on all of our meets. We travel to some really cool places like Kenosha and Cincinnati, and I’m going to miss not being able to go to those this year. I’m also very sad about not getting to see my favorite coach Mr. Fredrick everyday at practice. He is a wonderful coach and I’m going to miss him very much.”
