Q&A: Abigail Burton (10)
April 29, 2020
Q: How did you feel about having a birthday in quarantine?
A: “I was upset that my birthday happened to be during quarantine because I knew that I wouldn’t be able to see any of my friends and that I wasn’t going to be able to have a party, at least not anytime soon.”
Q: What was different about this year compared to other years?
A: “I was basically locked in my house all day and I wasn’t able to see any of my friends like usual because my birthday usually falls on a school day. But some people came and visited and dropped off different things like Starbucks and an ice cream cake for me so that was nice.”
Q: Did you do anything special with your family to celebrate?
A: “The two things that I did with my family were that my dad brought me home Chick-fil-A and he made me grilled potatoes for dinner (one of my favorite things he cooks) and my mom bought me a big sign that went in our front yard and it said ‘Happy Sweet 16 Abby.’”
Q: Did you have to cancel any plans due to Covid-19? If so, what?
A: “Not really, because we never planned a party or anything because we knew that it was probably going to be canceled.”
Q: Are you planning on doing anything to celebrate after the stay-at-home order is lifted?
A: “Yes, I plan on having a party with my friends and also my family party.”
Q: What was your favorite part of your birthday this year?
A: “My favorite parts were seeing some of my friends and them dropping off stuff and I also enjoyed taking pictures with my mom for my Instagram post.”
Q: What would you recommend to people who also have a birthday during quarantine?
A: “I would recommend to just have fun with it. Obviously, it’s not going to be the same as every other year but [you can still] order your favorite food, take pictures, facetime friends, etc. Try to make the best out of the situation given.”
