N-Teens Lasagna Love

Looking over the ingredients with her group, Riley Hanson (11) starts to make her lasagna components. After she prepared the ingredients, Hanson and her group put their lasagna in the oven. “My favorite part of Lasagna Love is getting to cook with my friends while still helping people. I joined N-Teens because I really like volunteer work and how it gets me involved in my community. N-Teens is important to me because it gives me an opportunity to volunteer with friends and have fun events that are easily accessible,” Hanson said.

Standing around a group of desks, members of Asian American Club fill their plates with traditional Asian foods. Before the meeting started, all the members brought their dishes to Mr. Joe Bafia’s (Social Studies) classroom. “Someone brought lumpia, which is a Filipino egg roll, and Filipino crackers. I brought bibingka, which is a soft cake,” Abigail Decamotan (9) said.

Piquing her interest, Mila Emerick (12) inquires about Mrs. Claire Kuhlenschmidt’s (Social Studies) mastectomy. Emerick shadowed a doctor and wanted to further her knowledge on the subject. “It was very hard to move my arms..some people actually call it like an amputation because you’re removing a part of your body. It was extremely painful, but I had good medicine,” Mrs. Kuhlenschmidt said.

Decorating cookies, Izabella Romo (9), picks out the color of frosting she wants. She later topped her cookie with sprinkles and other decorative items. “My favorite part of the meeting was being able to hang out with people and win prizes,” Romo said.

Typing on her computer, Katie Poncin comments on the topic. She has been the secretary of Student Council for two years. “My position in Student Council is secretary. I had to run for the position and do a speech at the beginning of the year. Basically, a secretary takes notes at every meeting, so people can reference them at later meetings. I also read meeting minutes, usually, at every meeting, but not always,” Poncin (11) said.
