On Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, Blackbear released his fifth studio album Everything Means Nothing. This 12 track album includes his singles, “Hot Girl Bummer,” “Me & ur Ghost and “Queen of Broken Hearts.” The project also features collaborations with Lauv and Trevor Daniel.

The song “I Feel Bad,” which was previously supposed to be the title track, is about his experience with Necrotizing Chronic Pancreatitis. “I feel bad. I struggle with this medical condition called Necrotizing Chronic Pancreatitis. And I have to get surgeries every two months because I have this stricture in my small intestines…If I have a bad day where I’m having pain, it sucks up the day. But that’s just what it is. I feel bad about feeling bad. I feel bad that I don’t even feel good, you know?” Blackbear said.

Blackbear wanted to make a more uplifting album for people to enjoy and dance to even when they didn’t feel good about themselves. Blackbear thinks that this album really shows his “versatility as an artist” and wants this album to be a No. 1 album.

The album received many mixed reviews from people online. A lot of fans thought that his album just sounded the same and it was a very “summer Tik Tok songs” album.

I listened to this album because I had listened to a few of Blackbear’s songs before and thought that he was a talented artist and wanted to see if I would like his new album. When I listened to the album I definitely enjoyed listening to it, and the songs made me feel good, but at the same time the songs sounded the same.  My favorite tracks on the album are “I feel bad,” “Smile Again” and “ I Feel 2 Much.”  I definitely think the Blackbear succeeded at making this album more uplifting and upbeat. Overall, I really enjoyed listening to the album and think that Blackbear did a great job with making a feel-good album.
