On Oct. 12, 2020, NF dropped a new song called “Chasing,” surprising all his fans. It has been a whole year since new music has been put out. His last album, The Search, dropped in July of 2019. In the past, NF has been known for his unpredictability in his music; some of his songs are intense raps or slower sad songs like “Trauma.” “Chasing” is a mixture of both, and it is honestly one of my favorites. The story behind “Chasing” being released actually started with a fan covering a short clip of the song NF had released on his Twitter account in March. He was not going to release the full song because he was afraid fans would not like it.

“Every project I do there are a couple songs that I hold back or feel like just don’t work and [“Chasing”] was going to be one of those songs,” NF tweeted.

He came across Mikayla Sippel who had covered the clip of the song he had posted on his social media and he liked the cover so much he decided to release the song with her featured in it.

“Chasing” is a heart-gripping ballad about breaking down and wanting to break away. Backed by a sparse piano and moving violins, NF sings somberly in sync with Sippel’s soft voice: “I just want to run away, find somewhere to feel safe.” NF refers to some of his pain as “bad days” and everyone has bad days, making it something everyone can relate to. He hasn’t put an official release date for his next upcoming album, but I’m sure he is going to surprise everyone.
