In the first official game of the season, the boys Varsity basketball team defeated Washington High School with a final score of 55-47. According to the boys, this win secures success for the rest of the season and helps them mentally prepare for the upcoming season.

“It feels good to know how well we played together in just our first game together and to get the first win just to help us be more mentally prepared for the other games. One of the biggest things that prepared us was our conditioning. We’ve been running a lot, which helped us win our first game because we were just able to run them out of the gym at the end of the game, which was one of the biggest reasons we won,” Jack Mahoney (11) said.

The team was down by one point going into halftime with a score of 26-27, but they came together as a team and pushed through. They were training and getting prepared for the first game and pulled through with a win.

“Going into the game I was excited because I didn’t know if we were going to have a season or not because of COVID, and after the game, I was happy that we got our first win this year, but [I] knew we had a lot of work to do if we wanted to beat Andrean next week or West Side the week after,” Mahoney said.
