Boys Swim Team Defeats Portage

Krista Kulacz, Print Team Leader

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, the boys and girls swim teams competed in their first meet of the season against Portage at home.  Both teams took a huge win against portage with a final score of 132-31 for the girls and 156-11 for the boys.

“For our first meet, I feel kike this meet went very well. We left it all out in the pool and a lot of people had really good races individually as well,” Drew Mcgrath (9) said.

For one boy on the JV swim team, his first year on the swim team is far from normal. COVID-19 has made this season different from any other season and has changed the way the team conducts practices and meets.

“The practices and meets are different now because of COVID restrictions because we have to wear masks anytime we are not in the pool.  As for the meets, only a limited number of spectators are allowed to come watch,” Ethan Schassburger (11) said.

The boys swim team started off their season strong by sweeping the competition at this meet. They hope to continue their success throughout the season and reach their goals as a team.

“My goal as an individual for this season is to make sectionals. As a team, the goal is to win sectionals as that hasn’t happened for 16 years, and it would be a big accomplishment,” Nolan Meyers (9) said.
