Spreading Joy with the Junior Class

On Dec.15 and 16, the Junior Class Cabinet met to make staff appreciation cards. They made cards for the custodial and food services staff.

“The goal for this meeting was to show some appreciation for staff members that don’t get recognized as much, like the janitorial staff and the cafeteria staff. We don’t know them on a name basis. It was just nice to get a list of everyone in those teams and just be able to write them some notes,” Kimberly Hestermann (11) said.

The members of the Junior Class Cabinet were able to come to make personal cards for the staff. They received materials to make the cards and a list of the staff members’ names to make the cards more personal.

“We definitely have some staff members in the building that don’t get thanked and don’t get the appreciation they deserve, and they are working hard to keep us safe and keep our building clean and keep you guys fed. It gives you guys an opportunity to stay involved and current in case we do have something come up later in the year,” Ms. Allison Peda, English, said.

Members of the club like Grace Jurkovic (11) thought that showing appreciation to other members of the staff was a good idea. She thinks that creating handwritten notes best shows how appreciative the students are of the staff.

“It is good to give back to them and show them that we actually care. I think that it brings a stronger relationship, because if I just printed it off on the computer it doesn’t really show that we took much time. We could have just copy and pasted it, but with this, we actually took our time to make it our own and actually put effort into it,” Jurkovic said.

Hestermann believes that passing these handwritten notes will leave a positive impact on the staff. The Junior Class Cabinet does small activities throughout the year to keep their members connected as they have bigger events later in the year.

“I think that it will be a very positive impact, and I hope it just brings a little bit of joy to them, just to know that we took the time to get their names and write something even if we didn’t know them personally. I think it is good for them to know the students care. I think they will be happy,” Hestermann said.
