Students involved in Best Buddies are interviewed in order to be matched with their buddies.
“We’re looking for compatibility, how social they are, if they have any personality traits, and if have any particular hobbies and interests,” Chase Lowden (10) said.
Best Buddies is an organization that helps foster friendships between general education students and students with developmental disabilities. This is Lake Central’s second year with the club.
“We do a lot of after-school activities, such as bowling. We also do a lot of in-school things, such as seasonal parties,” Lowden said.
The students also plan a walk with Crown Point and Munster and throw an end of the year dance. Their events are planned with the goal of getting as many students involved as possible.
“Ever since I helped someone on varsity choir, I’ve been inspired to help others feel accepted,” Kevin Kuhn (12).
Even though the interviews are concluded, students can still join Best Buddies. For more information, see Mrs. Clark in E102.
