The boys Varsity football team played their first game of the season against Munster High School on Friday. They started the first half 0-0 before giving their kick in the second half scoring 28-0, starting the season with a win.

“I feel pretty good, sore but I am glad we got the win. I feel like it was good that our student section had our back. I mean they didn’t know. We won. I feel like it was good that our student section had our back. I mean they didn’t know [about the penalty]. If they got to delay the game then they got to delay the game. I think we are going to do well. Our team chemistry is really good and we got the sideline on the game with kids that play and I feel like we will do really well,” Diego Garcia (12) said.

During the second half, our team scored a touchdown. However, due to smoke bombs, from our student section, we were given a 15 yard penalty.

“I felt like this game went well. We need to start off better and stronger to score more. About half way through I felt the same as I came out. I felt energized and wanted to win. Everyone in the student section was great, we just can’t do the powder thing again.  That cost us 15 yards. I was kinda upset because that cost us a touchdown.” Mateo Cortez (12) said.

Even with the 15 yard penalty, the team was still able to win against Munster, starting off strong this season.  The team is getting ready to keep this streak for their next game next week against Chesterton.

“I feel like we can go big and maybe win state.” Cortez said.
