On Tuesday, Nov. 23, The Recording Academy released the nominations for the 64th Grammy Awards. The Academy gives out 75 awards ranging from Best Metal Performance to Best Improvised Jazz Solo. The Grammy’s have been called out in recent years to favoring songs not due to their quality but their popularity.

“I think that if something is popular, it shouldn’t be a problem that it gets an award. If it’s popular, that means lots of people like it. If a lot of people are listening, it’s going to get a lot of popularity,” Dylan Lopez (11) said.

Artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Kanye West, have been nominated for albums of the year. Artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat and Lil Nas X, have been nominated for song of the year. Although nominees have been released, performers are to be announced. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the Grammy’s will be held on Jan. 31, 2022 and broadcasted on NBC.
