The Varsity girls basketball team played Gary High School on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.. The girls played to win, ending the game with the score of 71-22. The girls started off the game by scoring the first six points. By half time, the score was 42-9. This was the senior night game celebrating the senior players Katelyn Zajeski (#12) and Essence Johnson (#30).

“The first time I was on a team was 7th grade, and playing with my neighbors sparked my interest. It made my highschool experience more enjoyable and I got to meet a lot of girls on the team and we are family,” Zajeski said.

At the beginning of the game, the team walked out with posters and cutouts  celebrating the senior players. The gym cheered as the two girls walked out with their families before the game started. They were honored with flowers and cheers from their junior and sophomore teammates. The senior game differs from regular games because it’s a night where the bonds of teammates get recognized and appreciated.

“I had fun and it made me emotional,” Zajeski said.G
