On the evening of November 18, the Lake Central girls basketball team played a non-conference game against the Hammond Central team. With an overall record of 4-1 for the season, Lake Central aims to secure, yet again, another win. As the timer on the scoreboards counted down, basketball fans and parents took their seats ready to watch the game. Some of the players admitted to having certain strategies that keep them in a good mind set during the game.
“I try to be as aggressive as I can and try to get a lot of steals. I try to say to myself ‘I’m really good’, so I can do as much as I can and play my hardest,” Lyndsey Sensor (10) said.
As of right now, Lake Central is on a winning streak and their goal is to end their year off with a great season. With upcoming games, against more challenging teams, Junior Varsity’s goal is to learn moves that will give them the advantage during the game.
“Our next game is supposed to be one of our bigger, challenging games. We are going to try and keep them to a lower score. I focus during practice and pay attention to the plays we have to run. We watch films before games depending on who we play,” Paige Boldon (10) said.
There are always different tactics that student athletes recommend to stay consistent and competitive during a game. These strategies consist of simple habits that will be taken into consideration on the court.
“My goals are to always get better and to become more motivated during each practice. I like to shoot around before the game while listening to music. Having great people around me playing by my side keeps me motivated,” Emma Szany (10) said.
