The school bell rings as club members walk their way to Mr. Bafia’s room in C302. Even though Asian American Club meetings are every Tuesday, the club held a planning and informational meeting for their Lunar New Year Party set on January 30th. They also included a segment on Asian celebrity drama.
“On my slides, I talked about Filipino celebrities named Kathryn Bernado and Daniel Padilla on their divorce. Basically, Padilla was accused of not being faithful in the relationship, and it’s something a lot of Fillipinos are talking about,” Alexis Grosskurth (10) said.
Jasdeep Kaur (10) had a similar situation to share from India. Rather than cheating, it focused on a murder mystery that has stunned Bollywood.
“In 2020, a popular celebrity, known as Sushant Singh Rajput, was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai, India. His family accused Rhea Chakraborty of abetment suicide which she denied. Yet, she was found leaving his home a few hours before his death. The police has ruled this as a suicide, but the people in India think otherwise,” Kaur.
After discussing drama from all around Asia, officers switched to organizing the upcoming Lunar New Year celebration. The club is planning for members to bring three dollars if they would like to attend and eat at the function.
“I’m bringing trays of rice, and I know that Mr. Bafia is going to be ordering from a Chinese restaurant. We’re planning on ordering trays of egg rolls, so that way we have a variety of food,” Grosskurth said.
