On a breezy Tuesday evening, The Lake Central girls volleyball team won two out of the three sets, which resulted in them winning the entire match.
“I feel like I performed pretty well which helped my team succeed. I think me and my team could have done better at communicating in certain situations, but overall we did well,” Madelyn Schultz (10) said.
The players are constantly trying to improve their skills even though the new season has just begun.
“I think I have definitely improved on my hitting. Practice has helped me by letting me develop physically by getting reps and being able to practice things I need to improve on,” Julianna Flores (10) said.
Many of the girls have busy lives, yet they still manage to find time in their schedules for this rigorous sport.
“I balance school and homework with games and practices by using my PTE time a lot, getting my work done when it is assigned, and even doing homework on the bus rides to a game. I think this has helped me better my mentality since last year and has also helped me be able to overcome obstacles,” Schultz said.
Some of these players are influenced by the people around them to begin playing a sport, which results in a personal connection to the game, rather than just an appreciation.
“My biggest inspiration for volleyball most likely came from my older cousin. She played volleyball growing up and always begged me to play with her. At the time, I never wanted to but looking back she really introduced me to the sport that I love. Without her, I wouldn’t be playing volleyball like I am today,” Abigail Moore (10) said.
