On September 5th boys varsity and JV tennis took on Illiana Christian at Lake Central High School. The team starts off their season strong with 3-1 and continues to practice and work through the rest of the season.
“I think I’ve done pretty good this season. The first game I didn’t start off too good, but then slowly because of all the summer practice we had I’ve been doing pretty good,” Elijah Morey (12) said.
The team starts out this season with many new freshman players like Ethan Cordova (9) who is a freshman on varsity. Players discuss how Cordova has been a valuable new member to the game,
“I think Ethan [Cordova (9)], who’s a freshman, is playing one singles for us on varsity and he’s doing really well,” Milan Golubovic (12) said.
Despite their current winning streak, the team still feels pressured to win the games as often as possible. Because of this, the players all have their own ways of destressing and staying focused during the game.
“I usually get worse as I play because I get inside my own head, so when that happens before my games, I just hit the ball on the ground to clear my mind and not think of anything,” Khang Huynh (11) said.
However, the team can’t relax just yet with the rest of the season spread out in front of them, even if they are optimistic about the outcome of the season. Players discuss their thoughts on the remainder of the season.
“I think we’re gonna do really good, so far we’re like 3-1 in the season but the only one we lost to was Munster and they’re pretty good,” Morey said.
