On a warm Friday evening, the football team held a home game against the Munster Mustangs. The Indians won with a score of 38-0.
“The first game is always the hardest. It’s when you can really find out who you are as a team and what you guys are able to do. We put everything together. We were able to bring everything that we’ve been practicing together and win that first game, so it felt amazing,” Trevor Kubacki (12) said.
Friday night lights are something that many students look forward to. The student section is always full and ready to support the team.
“The student section heavily motivates us on the field. When the crowd’s really going it gets all of us hyped up. It just makes us want to play even better and perform even better because we have the whole student section relying on us,” Cameron Reddick (11) said.
Many of the senior football players have been with the program since their freshman year, and have shown a lot of growth throughout the past four years.
“My freshman year season got cut short because I tore my meniscus. My sophomore year was a long road to recovery. My junior year is when I really took a leap because I joined varsity.
I was just a role player. I didn’t do much on offense. I was just the guy that was there if they needed me. This year, I’ve been playing a much bigger role, and I think this year is gonna be my best year yet,” Kubacki said.
To these players, football is more than just a sport; it teaches fundamentals of life.
“Football is great outside of the sports aspect. There’s a lot of great lessons you can learn just for life, such as leadership, working with the team, being around people, meeting new friends, a lot of stuff like that. It really makes an impact in life, apart from just football,” Reddick said.
