On Aug. 27th, the varsity girls volleyball team played a profound home game against the Valparaiso Vikings. Lake Central played hard and won three sets. The third and final score being (25-17).
“I think I executed well with the ball and my blocking was good. I also think as a team we really played well and I was happy that I was able to play,” Isabella Denson (11) said.
Although the girls took home the victory, they still found things they could improve on.
“I think I am doing a good job at drawing the hitters out, so our pins are open, but I am struggling a little bit with pressing over the net. Overall, I think I did pretty well. I don’t think I made any major mistakes,” Kate Latzke (12) said. “My problem is when I go up I don’t try to press, so the ball will just ricochet off my hands instead of going back over the net. That’s a big problem that my coach has been telling me about and I know I need to fix it.”
During the game, it is important to be in the right headspace. The girls make sure they have a good mindset before playing a game to help them perform to the best of their abilities.
“Before a game, I tell myself to play my best and not worry about winning or losing. As long as I tried my best throughout the game that is what matters. During a game, I focus on my opponents and their moves, to plan what I should do next. That helps me play as well as I possibly can,” Arielle Carter-Reed (10) said.
