On Sept. 16, the girls golf team won their match at Palmira Golf Course with a score of 163. Macy Urbanski (12) led the team with a score of 35, and Allison Huppenthal (11) followed close behind with a score of 37. This is Huppenthal’s third year playing golf for Lake Central.
“My brother started golfing about two years before I did, and I always looked up to him, so I decided to follow in his footsteps. After sticking with the sport, I’ve really learned to enjoy it and improve my skills. Golf makes me better mentally and is definitely a challenge every single day,” Huppenthal said.
One bad swing or one bad hole can greatly affect mental health on the green. However, after three years on the golf team, Huppenthal has learned to appreciate golf as a physical and mental break.
“Golf is a very mental sport, and really teaches me how to control my emotions and stay calm at times when I feel overwhelmed. Golf keeps me in good shape, and really helps me physically and mentally,” Huppenthal said.
Most of the team’s members are returning, ready for another year of hard work and accomplishments. The golf team makes large commitments, with hours of practice every day and matches almost every week.
“It’s really important for me and my teammates to work together and stay as a team, even though golf is an individual sport. I always show up to practice ready to work, give it my all every single day, and am there for my teammates whenever they need it,” Huppenthal said.
