The National Honor Society held their induction ceremony in the auditorium on Nov. 21. New NHS members were welcomed in after signing their names into the members book and returning members were able to make speeches.
“I enjoyed speaking and seeing the next class get inducted because I remember getting inducted. It was fun to introduce new people to the club,” Anna Herr (12) said.
The ceremony started at 7 pm and lasted until 8 pm.
“I think the ceremony was fine, but it shouldn’t be on a school night because it was late,” Addison Niezgoda (11) said.
The National Honor Society is a community service program that improves a student’s likelihood of being noticed by colleges.
“I joined NHS because of the scholarship opportunities and I thought it was nice that they promote community service,” Caitlyn Blair (11) said.
Traditionally, there are positions such as president, vice president, etc, but this year was different.
“This year, Mrs. York got rid of the president and vice president positions. She decided to have a committee of eight of us that help organize the club,” Herr said.
The National Honor Society is one of the oldest recognized clubs created to acknowledge excellent students. All members are required to complete service hours in their community.
“I wanted to help the community. I feel that when I make others happy, I feel better about myself,” Piotr Zarozny (11) said.
In addition to service hours, students also have to answer a prompt and maintain a gpa of 3.3 or higher.
“It felt empowering because it feels like I worked and accomplished my goal,” Zarozny (11) said.
