Members of the Environmental Club gathered on Dec. 10 to collect leaves for creating collages. Additionally, they did a small trash pickup around the cross country paths at the back of the school.
“Some aspects of the Environmental Club that I enjoy are getting to hang out with my friends while having a direct positive effect on the local Lake Central community,” Sophia Rodriguez (11) said.
Several students feel that the club is a fun and involving way to care for the environment as a young person in the community.
“I think it’s important to care for the environment as a teenager because it can inspire other generations to care for the environment as well. Also, it is important to have environmentally conscious efforts as a teenager to create good habits for the future,” Itzia Oseguera (10) said.
Wanting to create a routine of little things that preserve the environment, the club acknowledges their responsibility.
“As a teenager, it’s important to develop habits that help and don’t hurt the Earth, along with making others aware of their environmental footprint,” Rodriguez said.
The co-president of the club works to help others promote environmental behaviors.
“I think it’s important to raise awareness about what you can do to be eco-friendly. Reusing garbage, doing clean ups and having an appreciation for the environment are all examples,” Salma Jimenez (10) said.
