Tears were shed, laughs were shared and memories were reminisced upon at the Best Buddies meeting on Monday, Dec. 10.
Jonathan Guzman (10) was a member of the club, so Best Buddies participants felt it right to hold a small memorial in honor of Guzman, who died Nov. 27.
A podium was set up in the south side of the cafeteria for those who cared to speak could share memories, feelings and prayers for the Guzman family. In attendance was Daniel Guzman (11), Jonathan’s brother.
“We planned this memorial to honor Jon, because he was one of the most amazing kids we had ever met. He was also a member of Best Buddies, and really touched a lot of kids in the club, and brought them happiness. He had that special touch that made everyone around him happier just by seeing him. We decided it would be right to honor him,” Secretary Noah Sarkey (11) said.
The club plans on permanently honoring Jonathan Guzman by creating a fund to put up a memorial in the school in his name.
“We are planning on putting up a memorial in the school, and we are still taking suggestions. We leaning toward putting a mirror, because unlike a rock or a tree, everyone would use it.”
The club is taking donations to the memorial as well as suggestions, which can be given to sponsor Mrs. Kathryn Clark, President Bridget Protsman (11), or Vice President Chase Lowden (10).
