On Wednesday, Jan. 9, the Dollars for Scholars club had a meeting in the North Cafeteria where they discussed the upcoming penny wars and assembled letters with information about Dollars for Scholars to be sent to businesses the club hopes to associate and collaborate with.
“We got a lot of work done tonight,” Reilly Cosgrove (11) said.
Dollars for Scholars works to provide scholarships to graduating seniors.
“I joined Dollars for Scholars because I know it’s important to get as many scholarships as you can when you’re going to college,” Casey Garvey (9) said.
In addition to funding scholarships, Dollars for Scholars provides large amounts of volunteer opportunities for students.
“Every time I come to a meeting, I’m given exciting, new opportunities to volunteer, and that makes me really happy,” Cosgrove said.
Students worked for a half an hour to assemble all the letters, including adding stamps, the writing of to and from addresses and sealing the envelopes.
“I, alone, have folded over 100 letters. Thinking about how productive we’ve been in just this one meeting, I can’t wait to see how much we can get accomplished by the end of the year,” Garvey said.
