On Jan. 20, the varsity cheerleaders were named both National Champions and Grand Champions after a two-day competition at JamFest. The team brought home their second consecutive National Champion title.
“We knew that we had to show them that we could do it again; it was a lot of pressure to do well,” Amy Gerike (12) said.
The pressure to maintain their previous title kept the team motivated.
“We couldn’t go in just saying we were going to win, we knew we had to work hard to win again,” Amber Piech (12) said.
When the team was on stage to receive their National Champion title, they were also recognized as Grand Champions.
“We were all really excited, and we thought it was a great accomplishment,” Piech said.
The competition was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team looks forward to two more competitions, one in Kentucky and a local competition in LaPorte.
