After placing second at Sectionals, two points behind Munster High School, the girls varsity swimming team made their way down to Indianapolis for the IHSAA Swimming State Meet Feb. 7. The girls’ times from Sectionals managed to qualify them to State in a total of eight out of 10 events. This is the most represented they have been in six years.
“[State] was really fun, but a lot of the girls were really fast,” Marina Vasquez (9) said.
Several of the girls set specific goals for themselves before competing, and Tracilyn Muszalski (11) was one of the girls to achieve her goal.
“I knew [that] if I wanted to be [in the] top eight, I needed to drop a lot and just be competitive. And I did. I got seventh in my 500, and then our relay got seventh,” Muszalski said.
The team was very happy with the results, and was very excited to end the season on such a successful note.
“I knew that this was what [we] worked all year for, and [we] earned it,” Muszalski said.
