One of the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team’s toughest games also happened to be their first. The team faced long-time rival Crown Point, falling short 2-0 in an intense game.
“[Losing to Crown Point] is hard because we’ve been long time rivals, and there’s a legacy we need to uphold as Lake Central Lady Indians,” Captain Lauren Doreski (11) said.
The team was able to hold off Crown Point until half-way through the second half, when they scored two quick goals.
“We can only improve as a team. We’re going to stay positive, strengthen our weaknesses and take one game at a time,” Megan Bereda (12) said.
During preseason the team suffered several minor injuries therefore limiting the playing time of their regular starters. Three incoming freshmen, Jillian Doan, Alisha Donovan and Tarah Hamby, had their chance to step up.
“All three of our freshmen were ready. They trained hard and worked hard. Their nerves were high in the beginning, but once they realized they could play against the older girls they stepped it up and really hustled,” Jane Gates (12) said.
The team’s next game will be Tuesday at home versus Michigan City at 6:30 p.m.
