On Saturday, May 11, the JV girls tennis team traveled to Merrillville for a tournament where they played against Merrillville, Portage, Crown Point, Chesterton and Whiting.
There was a separate bracket for the one through three singles players and the one and two doubles teams.
“I played with Sophie Sablich [(11)]. During our game against Whiting, it started downpouring. We had to wait fifteen minutes for the courts to dry. We ended up winning both sets,” Melissa Dobos (11) said.
Samantha Dow (12) and Emily Birlson (10) played at the one doubles position and won two games losing their final game in a super-tiebreaker by only two points.
“We won our first match against Highland, our second match against Chesterton, and we lost our third match against Crown Point. We were super disappointed, but we placed second in the tournament for one doubles. I was very proud of how me and my partner worked together,” Dow said.
The one singles position finished fourth place overall, Andjela Jovanovic (11) won first place at the two singles position, and the three singles position placed fifth overall. The one doubles position won second place, and the two doubles position won fourth place overall.
