The first Sophomore Class Cabinet meeting was held on Sept. 11 in room E111. Mrs. Stephanie Sivak, English, and Ms. Allison Peda, English, gathered to discuss Homecoming issues and decisions along with approximately 20 students.

After student council decided on this year’s theme, safari, the Sophomore Class Cabinet began to consider a design that matches that of “The Lion King” for their banner. Students walk the banner across the field during halftime.

“The September schedule [for class cabinet] will include mostly Homecoming preparation. We need to start ordering stuff for the tailgate before the game,” Sivak said.

Some students made suggestions such as selling mardi gras beads, bandannas, raffle tickets and glow sticks to match the glow-in-the-dark Homecoming T-shirts. The raffle tickets give students a chance to win a bucket full of LC sports items like T-shirts and superfan passes.

“Any sophomore is welcome to join class cabinet. It gives the students an opportunity to get together and make friends,” Mrs. Sivak said.

Many students join for that reason, others for academics.

“I like to be involved in extracurricular activities, and they look good on college applications,” Kayla Radtke (10) said.

For sophomores interested in joining the club, it’s not too late. Mrs. Sivak can be found in room E111 for more information. You can also come to Lake Central Sunday, Sept. 22, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. to help decorate the halls.
