Despite stifling heat, the boys and girls cross-country teams competed against the Chesterton Trojans and the Michigan City Wolverines on Sept. 10. The boys beat the Wolverines 15-50 and the Trojans 49-15 while the girls also coming out on top won against Michigan City 15-50 and Chesterton 16-41.

“[The heat] was not that bad. It was cooler at practice yesterday then today,” Coach Jeff Rhody said.

Although the heat was bearable, beating Chesterton and Michigan City still posed a challenge for the runners. Throughout the race, runners had an adequate amount of relief stations where they could drink water to cool them off.

“Everything was supplied for the runners, like cold towels when they finished and water stations to hydrate them as they ran,” Coach Rhody said. The boys ended up taking a victory over both teams.

Through hard work and dedication the girls pulled out a victory.

“My goal for the team is to perform well at DAC and get to state,” Coach Ann Downey said. “All the girls have worked through the heat and are used to it from summer conditioning.

“This summer the girls have worked really hard to improve upon last year,” Ms. Downey said. The Lake Central girls came out on top winning 15-50 over Michigan City and 16-41 over Chesterton.
