The boys cross-country team took their places at the starting line with 10 other teams from across the region. At the sound of the gun, every team took off with one goal in mind– winning the Regional title.

On Oct. 19, the boys traveled to Lemon Lake to compete in the regional championship race; the boys left the racing grounds with third place.

“We were content with how we ran, but we would have liked to have had second place. Our race plan coming into the race was to get Crown Point and win, and we failed to do both,” Brandon Long (11) said.

Long was one of the seven runners who represented Lake Central at Regionals. The boys’ overall score of the meet was 72 points. Lake Central’s first runner to cross the finish line was Zachary Hupp (10), who took eighth place in the race and finished in 16:41.

“When I finish first for the team, I feel like I have a responsibility to have my best race possible. I had a pretty bad race on Saturday, and I feel like I let the team down,” Hupp said.

Despite the team’s inability to achieve their goals at Regionals, they will still be racing at New Prairie High School on Oct. 25 in the Semi-State race.

“Besides having a somewhat disappointing Regional meet, we are really excited for Semi-State. None of our runners have ever been to State,” Hupp said, ”so we really want to have that opportunity.”
