November 1, 2013
Varsity volleyball had their Sectional match on Oct. 26 at Munster High School. The Mustangs defeated the Indians in four sets; the scores were 25-22, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
“I was nervous coming into the game because I knew Munster is a good team, and I knew every game could be my last,” Megan Malatestinic (12) said.
The Munster Mustangs ended up taking the win for the first set. In the second set, Brooke Renner (11) made the final kill, making the second set 25-20, with the Indians taking the second set.
“Some positive things were that when we were down by a lot of points we always would fight back and make it a close game,” Malatestinic said.
The Lady Indians were down by nine points in the third set of the morning. Victoria Gardenhire (10) served the Indians from 9-1 all the way to 10-8. Throughout the game, neither team backed out. It went from tying game at points 16, 17, 18, and 19 until the Mustangs took the lead and won the third set.
“After the game was one of the worst feelings. We were all upset because we expected so much more to come out of the post season,” Malatestinic said.
In the fourth set, Munster took the game with the score of 25-16. This was the final game for varsity volleyball 2013 season and for two seniors Malatestinic and Katherine Stepanian (12).
