On Nov. 2, the marching band members went to State and performed in the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Students in the marching band took in this event as one of the best performances LC has done at this competition.

There were 42 bands there, Lake Central included. Also, four different classes were involved, but in LC’s class (class A) there were 10 that made it to ranking. Due to the bigger population of the crowd, the students felt more pressure during their performance.

“I get nervous before every performance, not nervous but anxious to perform. I get butterflies and this intense sense of focus, but I am definitely confident. I know that all my hard work pays off and I know what I am doing,” Alexa Adams (10) said.

The members of the band tend to be nervous but manage their emotions to stay confident.

“Before the performance, I was feeling really confident. We were as prepared as we could be. The anxiety to actually get on the field was killing me, too. Afterwards, I felt pretty good. I thought it was a solid performance and that we did well overall,” Jesse Rivera (10) said.

For getting fourth place out of the 10 bands there, the band received a trophy and the state finalist bands got to drink milk as a tradition after each band performs.

“We drink milk because it’s ISSMA’s slogan, winners drink milk,” Samantha McCuaig (10) said.

The band has two more competitions. This weekend they have Bands of America Regional Championship, and the next weekend they have Bands of America Grand National Championship in Indianapolis.
