The starter gun popped to start the 17th annual Education Foundation 5K hosted at Lake Central on Saturday Nov. 9.

“It is the school and community coming together to participate in a fun walk or run for the Lake Central education foundation, and the proceeds help fund special projects for teachers,” Janice Malchow, Lake Central School Board member said.

The Education Foundation has been able to give 447 grants worth $229,000 to teachers in the Lake Central school corporation.

“I love seeing how creative and innovative the teachers are in class and the impact is has on the students,” Martha Sandoval, Education Foundation President, said.

Students, teachers and parents made up the 74 people that participated in Saturday’s events. Participants volunteered for more than one reason.

“I think it’s a great cause and keeps you staying fit,” Nicole Milaszewski (9) said.

Due to the Education Foundation and its generosity, the Education Foundation has given teachers the ability to better their student’s learning experiences.

“Lake Central has given so much to me and if I can give something back to the education foundation while having a lot of fun it’s a win-win,” Mr. Darrell Wierzal, English, said.
