The School Board met in the LGI on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The main topics covered at this meeting were health-related, such as the Walk For Wellness, or had to do with the construction of the new high school. Some subtopics included ISTEP+ scores as well as the approval of the annual trip that 8th-graders take to Washington, D.C.

Dr. Janice Malchow, board member, updated everyone on the Lake Central Education Foundation 5K. as one of the first matters discussed.

“The Lake Central Education Foundation had their 5K walk on Nov. 9. We had good weather, [but] it was a bit windy. We had some nice volunteers, and I want to thank everyone for their help with that, because that is our way to fund special projects in our classrooms,” Malchow said.

She then moved on to explain the status on the wellness committee.

“The two experts of the wellness committee, Dr. [Larry] Veracco and Mrs. [Louise] Tallent are here. On behalf of them, I [want to] share that we are hoping to have the walking champion determined and announced at the December 2nd school board meeting,” Malchow said.

The meeting went on, and Dr. Veracco announced that Lake Central had recently been awarded $39,463.63 through a school safety grant.

“It enhances our security by limiting visitor access to our school building,” Dr. Veracco said.

Updates on the new portion of the high school were announced, and pictures of the new school were shown. Everything is going according to plan, according to the board.

The next school board meeting will be held on Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
