Lake Central athletes commit to college sports

On the evening of Wednesday Nov. 13, several seniors made the transition from high school athlete to college athlete. Papers were signed and commitments were made; a new chapter is about to begin in the lives of these athletes.
There were 10 total commitments among the Lake Central seniors.
- Alec Olund, Purdue University, baseball.
- Gelen Robinson, Purdue University, football.
- Holly Spears, Indiana University Bloomington, swimming.
- Tracilyn Muszalski, Ball State University, swimming.
- Elizabeth Seymour, George Mason University, softball.
- Lilianna DelToro, Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, softball.
- Tyler Wideman, Butler University, basketball.
- Rolanda Currington, Saint Joseph’s College, basketball.
- Kiana Jongsma, Valparaiso University, golf.
- Lyana Burrink, Indiana State University, soccer.
After the arduous process of visiting colleges and meeting coaches, the journey of college athletics has finally begun.
“I’m relieved and excited for a new beginning. I visited multiple colleges and was looking for a city atmosphere. When i visited IUPUI I just knew,” DelToro said.
Many young athletes dream of one day participating in college sports and finally getting the chance is a huge accomplishment.
“It’s crazy knowing I’m going to be competing in Big 10 and NCAA. I always thought I wanted to go to Purdue, but my official visit to IU Bloomington hooked me. I got along with the coach and the team really well. They’re great,” Spears said.
