Hailey Garlich (11) swims the 100 backstroke at the girls swim meet on Nov. 26. Garlich won her event with a time of 1:03.

On Nov. 26, the girls varsity swimming and diving team had their first meet at home against Portage and won with a score of 138-47.

“I feel like the win will help us go far. It was our first meet, so we started off on a good note,” Tracilyn Muszalski (12) said.

The girls are expecting more wins like this for the future.

“They are a very cohesive unit and are coming together very well. Their energy is fantastic and gets everyone else motivated, even the boys,” Dale Ramsy, assistant coach, said.

The girls look forward to each season with hope that they’ll do better than the last. As the season continues on, they are becoming closer as a team.

“I feel like this year we didn’t get a lot of incoming freshman, and we had a lot of people graduate, but our coach is pushing up a lot of JV girls to varsity, and they’re handling it very well. I feel like the JV and the varsity [teams] are becoming more like one team and that’s improved over the years I have swum,” Muszalski said.

The girls feel that they will do well this season both as a team and individually as the season progresses.

“I think we have a good chance of doing really well this season. Everyone is pushing themselves really hard during practice, and we’re coming together as a team and that’s helping us go faster. I did well. I didn’t think we were going to do as good as we did, but everyone was very excited about their times,” Hailey Garlich (11) said.
