The freshman girls basketball team challenged the Portage Indians at home on Dec. 12. The blue Indians let the opposing tribe know that they were a force to be reckoned with by winning with a score of 27-19.

“[Portage is] a good team, but they are not one of our main ones we need to worry about,” Kylie Extin (9) said.

The girls dominated the court and added another win to their record, which is now 5-2.

“[I played] pretty good. I scored a lot of points. This [game] was probably my best game of the season,” Faith Maldonado (9) said.

The players’ individual drives helped the entire team soar. Their teamwork is what helped them defeat Portage.

“We were passing well, we knew the plays well and we just really worked well together,” Olivia Kelly (9) said.

The team will travel to Highland on Saturday, Dec. 14, to show the Highland Trojans what the Indians are made of.

“I think this year has been a good year for our team,” Kelly said, “we turned out to play really well together and we have done better against teams that I thought we wouldn’t be able to do well against.”
