Girls varsity and JV swimming had their first swim practice in the new pool on Dec. 21. The transition to a brand new pool marks a historic date for Lake Central swimming.

“The new pool looks better after the construction. They did a good job with it. It restates pride Lake Central has for the swim team. I think [the new pool] will inspire and reinvigorate [the swimmers’] desire to train,” Coach Todd Smolinski, Social Studies, said.

Now that the pool is divided into three sections, there are more lanes, so JV has longer practice hours. It is divided so they can all work on what they need to make up an effective team. Coaches plan on better and different workouts to help the team improve.

“We want to improve as a team, and we think that the pool can help us do that,” Sarah Diviney (10) said.

The next meet in the new pool will be in Jan. 18 against Chesterton at 5:30 p.m.

“Every team will be excited to swim here. It will bring us closer as a community,” Coach Smolinski said.
