On Jan. 29, Interact club members came together to discuss Mr. Tom Clark’s, Social Studies, co-founded organization Operation Care.

The organization collects humanitarian items and gives it out to children and adults in Afghanistan villages.

“I am co-founder with 1st Sgt. Larry Clutinger. He talked to me and said we need to do a humanitarian thing here, and we had stuff coming in from the states. We started giving it out to the people, and we felt that it was good because the people would look at us like friends and not foe,” Mr. Clark said.

The school has adopted this collection in hopes of forming a relationship from here to Afghanistan.

“Shoes, clothing, toys, stuffed animals, Beanie Babies and backpacks are needed to be sent. We are trying to the win hearts of children, one heart at a time,” Brandon Cole (12), president of Interact, said.

For Mr. Clark, the most important part of organization is the helping the kids struggling without basic necessities.

“The kids are the future. If we can win the kids’ hearts and minds then maybe we won’t have problems down the road,” Clark said.

The collection ends March 5.
