The gymnastics team traveled to Merrillville High School on Thursday, Jan. 23. The girls competed in bars, vault, floor routine and beam. Lake Central’s final score was 98.5, and Merrillville’s was 101.7.

The girls performed on each of these areas and were scored according to how well their routine was. For Andi Wartman (11), her floor performance was her highest point of the meet.

“I think I did well on my floor routine. I scored a 9.45, which is the best I have ever done. I also won first with that score,” Wartman said.

Keeping high hopes for a good season is important for the girls to keep in mind.

“I think we will do a lot better from here on. Hopefully we will break 100 for our final score,” Lauren Markulin (11) said.

The award ceremony consisted of first through sixth place standings between both Lake Central’s team and Merrillville’s, starting with bars, followed by vault, then beam and ending with floor routines.

“Even though we did not win, this meet was the highest score that my team accomplished this season. I am very proud of my team”, Wartman said.
