After being in Afghanistan from 2006 to 2007, Mr. Thomas Clark, Social Studies, helped put together an organization called Operation Care. The organization distributed over 150 care packages to Afghan citizens in May of 2011. Interact Club is now helping Clark find donations for the organization and spread the word to students.

“Interact is trying to get this drive going so that we can send things to [the Afghan children,]” Brandon Cole (12) said.

Clark was one of the individuals responsible for starting the organization as a whole.

“When I was there, a First Sergeant and myself started it. It’s to give out things to soldiers and also to needy Afghans,” Mr. Clark said.

Operation Care accepts a variety of donations to give to Afghans including clothes, school supplies, and toys.

“We want anyone in schools [to donate], and then we send boxes out. We have four boxes in the back [of my room], all ready to go,” Mr. Clark said.

The organization has grown a lot since Mr. Clark first helped create it during his time in Afghanistan. Operation Care has an entire website describing their goals and accomplishments. There is also a website with information regarding donations and contact information. Anybody interested in donating can contact Operation Care at [email protected] or talk to Mr. Tom Clark in room C313.
