Lately, Hollywood has been filled with major book series becoming movie franchises. Including in these is “The Hunger Games,” “Harry Potter” and “The Hobbit.” The “Divergent” series will be added to this list of fan-favorites.

“I’m really excited to see the movie because I want to see how they portray the book on-screen. I read the first book in one day because it was so good, so I can’t wait for the movie,” Gianna Mills (10) said.

In the movie, there is a society with different groups of people who have various major characteristics. The Erudite are intelligent, Abnegation are selfless, Candor are honest, Amity are peaceful and the Dauntless are brave. Tris Prior grew up in Abnegation but chooses to switch to Dauntless. Throughout the series there is a fight between the customs and beliefs she grew up with and the new ways of the Dauntless.

“Divergent” opens on March 21 with a midnight showing and then has showings going on throughout the day. Some students have already begun to buy their tickets.

“I bought my tickets early because I knew they would be sold out on the first day so I wanted to make sure my friends and I got tickets,” Eva Kimberly (10) said.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience rated their desire to see the movie 97%, adding more excitement to the release of “Divergent.”
