The Lake Central varsity boys basketball team advanced to the State Finals after defeating the Homestead Spartans 79-57 on Saturday, March 22.

“It’s a great feeling to know all our hard work is paying off. And my mindset [before playing the game] was I’ve played a lot of games before so just treat it like another game and play hard,” Tyler Wideman (12) said.

The Indians held the lead for the entire game, but after a fast first half, the Spartans lessened the gap and made the score 27-25.

“We stuck to our game plan of keeping it out of the center’s hand on defense and continued to attack on offense,” Matthew Meneghetti (12) said.

The top scorers for LC were Joseph Bannister (11) with 21 points, Wideman with 14 points, and Tyler Ross (12) with 13. This Semi-State Title is the first that Lake Central has won in the last 30 years

“[To prepare for the State game] We’re going to work hard and do everything we can to help us win,” Tye Wilburn (12) said.

The team will play against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical on Saturday, March 29 at 8:15 EST. For more information, on tickets, the pep rally and the fan bus click here.
