Families and friends gathered at Rohrman Park in Schererville on Thursday, Jul. 3, in anticipation for the town’s annual firework show. The show always attracts many people from the region, but this year there was a significantly large turn out.

“I have always gone to Rohrman fireworks, it’s always been a tradition for my family, but I’ve never seen that big of a crowd there,” Rachel Jensen (12) said.

The Independence Day celebration started at 7 p.m. with musical entertainment from DJ Mark McDaniel. The firework show then began at dusk and it impressed the audience.

“[The firework show] was so spectacular.  Closing my eyes when I had to blink was the only disappointment. The show really gets better every year,” Danielle Soucie (12) said.

Along with all of the excitement and entertainment that the event brought, there were several concessions around the park including a booth that sold glow sticks and other light-up souvenirs to support the Schererville Parks Department.

“I feel that [the firework show] is a great way to bring together community and a great way to support the community,” Parker Danner (10) said.

At the end of the event the community was guided out of the park by several police. Until next year, the residents of near by towns will wait for another exciting show.
