The debate team, advised by Dr. Dustin Verpooten, Science, started off this year’s season after school on Wednesday with a callout meeting for any new or returning members.
The team has made a few changes from last year, including mandatory practice. Losing the seniors from last year will also have an effect on the team.
“It will be interesting to see how things pan out with the seniors gone,” Tiffany Thupvong (12) said.
This season is Thupvong’s fourth year on the debate team, and she is partners with Blaine O’Neill (12). The duo is excited to see how their last year on the team will go.
“I’m curious to see how the other schools have improved from last year,” O’Neill said.
October marks the start of preparing for this year’s competitions. The team will participate in three to four tournaments this season where they debate against other local schools, the first one being on Nov. 5 in Valparaiso.
