On October 17, the Spell Bowl team traveled to Gavit High School for Regionals. The team placed third, a satisfying ending for their season.
“[The season was] pretty good, but we lost some seniors and gained new members,” Mufaddal Udaipurwala (12) said.
The team worked hard, staying after school to practice spelling the more difficult of the words on the seven-page list of words that they were given.
“We take turns going up and spelling 10 words to see what words you need to work on,” Udaipurwala said.
This year, the team’s dynamic changed. Different members were added, forcing the team to adjust to having more participants. One of this year’s members, Sara Rose (11), went to the competition.
“One word was ‘Blitze’, which is a German pastry,” Rose said.
Rose spelled six out of nine words correctly during her round. Even though they did not place as highly as they hoped, they were very proud of their accomplishments.
“[Spell Bowl] is a fun time, and I’m happy I did it this year,” Rose said.
